Hearing loss or hypoacusis

Knowing how hearing is affected is the first step to understanding what’s happening to you.

What is hypoacusis?

Hearing loss is a decrease in hearing ability, which can affect one or both ears. It doesn't always occur suddenly: in many cases, it develops gradually and goes unnoticed for a while. Some people first notice that they can't understand well when there's background noise, or that they need to turn up the television volume more than usual. Understanding what hearing loss is and how it manifests is essential to being able to act in a timely manner.

Most common causes of hearing loss

There are many reasons why a person may experience hearing loss. The most common are natural aging of the ear (presbycusis), prolonged exposure to loud noise, infections, earwax, traumatic injuries, or certain illnesses. Some medications can even have side effects that affect hearing. At Clinicaudio, we offer a free hearing test if you need guidance or have questions about your case.

Do you think you may be losing your hearing?

A hearing evaluation can help you understand what’s happening and, if necessary, explore options to restore your hearing. At Clinicaudio, we offer a free checkup where we can analyze your hearing and provide guidance.

Type of hypocusia

Not all hearing loss is the same.

Conductive hearing loss

caused by problems in the outer or middle ear (such as infections, blockages, malformations or perforations of the eardrum).

Sensorineural hearing loss

affects the inner ear or auditory nerve; it is usually related to age or noise exposure.

Mixed hearing loss

combines conductive and neurosensory causes. Identifying the type of hearing loss is essential to choosing the best treatment.

How do you know if you are losing your hearing?

There are signs that may indicate hearing loss:
If you identify with one or more of these situations, a hearing test may be helpful. At Clinicaudio, we offer a free, no-obligation evaluation.

How is hearing loss diagnosed?

Diagnosis is based on an initial interview, followed by audiometric testing. These assessments determine the degree of hearing loss and its location. Based on this information, it is possible to determine whether the condition is reversible, whether follow-up care is required, or whether further hearing care may be appropriate. The important thing is that the diagnosis is always made by a qualified professional, with the time and attention that each case requires.

Is there a solution for hearing loss?

Some types of hearing loss can be treated with medication or minor interventions (such as removing earplugs or treating infections). In other cases, especially when the loss is irreversible, hearing aids such as hearing aids, bone conduction devices, or implants can be used. The most important thing is not to normalize hearing loss. There are solutions that can significantly improve the quality of life of those who use them.
